Unfolding Arrival
With Francisca Khamis Giacoman, Mamdouh313, Ailin Mirlashari
>Curated by Abbas Sbeity and Evelina Hedin
A performance dinner in three acts, bringing together artists, curators, and guests in a staged encounter where food becomes language, and conversation becomes choreography. How do we listen – through flavours, gestures, through the rituals of sharing a meal?
Each course is paired with an artwork by one of the invited artists, whose practices speak from and across diasporic experiences. Their works guide the evening through stories of migration, memory, and care.
ARTISTS BIOS
Francisca Khamis Giacoman
Francisca Khamis Giacoman was born into the Palestinian diaspora in Chile. She is currently based in Amsterdam, NL where she practices as a multi-disciplinary artist. Khamis Giacoman is invested in unearthing memories and preserving oral tradition, and tries to engage with the malleable quality of time by listening to traces of the past, understanding how it materialises the present moment. She attempts to communicate from within an experience of a fragmented existence, using humour and treating with lightness the lived experience of being in a position of unknowing. Her recent film essay 31°42'49.5"N 35°10'13.9"E was nominated for best international short film at London Short Film Festival. She also organizes “Museo del Perro * Honden Museum”, a whimsical multimedia display collection of canine artifacts. In 2022, she co-founded Espacio Estamos Bien (EEB), an art cooperative that acts as a support network for independent artists.
Mamdouh313
Mamdouh313, founder of Not Your Habibi, has been a significant figure in Gothenburg's cultural scene since relocating to Sweden in 2017. Known for his DJ-ing and commitment to leading diversity in the cultural scene, Mamdouh313 has hosted cultural initiatives and booked artists from across the EU with a focus on queer and WANA representation. In summer 2024, Mamdouh313 had his successful debut summer tour across 9 EU cities. Prompted by the phenomenon of surrender, his current art projects examine media-specific instances to erasure, compromise, and abandon; work that relies on object making, performance, installation, prints, photographs, and video as tools to consider the curious nature of letting go. Mamdouh tries to develop artworks that speak both to him and others about the ambivalence of the past and the present. His experimental artworks, rich in layers and stories, often explore themes of identity, sex, and religion. Recipient of the KulturUngdom’s Artist of the Year in 2022, Mamdouh further solidified his position through his first solo show at Boy Konsthall.
Ailin Mirlashari
Ailin Mirlashari (1992) born and active in Stockholm, Sweden. She is currently studying her masters in fine arts at Konstfack University. She works interdisciplinary but mainly works with video, curation, installation, textile and photography. Being both an artist, social worker and having a foot in the grassroots movement, it shapes her world and positions how she sees it. Growing up in between cultures, her duality influences her artistic outlook. It makes her more sensitive to issues connected to duality, both physical, geographical and philosophical. In her works, she investigates themes that disturbs, or create love declarations to collective experiences.
