Ester Maria d’Avossa
Ester Maria d’Avossa (b. 1997, Milan) is a Danish-Italian curator and researcher whose practice investigates the structures, hierarchies, and conditions that shape contemporary art. Drawing from anthropological theories, transfeminist methodologies, and embodied forms of knowledge transmission, she is interested in practices that challenge the boundaries between art, labour, tradition, and technology. Within this framework, her research focuses on textile traditions and sound practices as ways to examine how marginalised forms of knowledge can expose, question, and unsettle the systems present within the contemporary art world.
She holds a BA in Cultural Heritage Studies from the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, Milan and an MA in Curating from Stockholm University. From autumn 2026, she will be a PhD candidate at Iuav University in Venice, in the Visual Arts curriculum.
She has collaborated with cultural institutions such as m.a.x.museum (CH), Nobel Lights Week Stockholm (SE), IASPIS – International Programme for Visual and Applied Arts (SE), Accelerator (SE), Färgfabriken (SE), Index – The Swedish Contemporary Art Foundation (SE), Magasin III – Museum for Contemporary Art (SE), Konstfrämjandet Norrbotten (SE), The Italian Institute of Culture Stockholm (SE), Lac o Le Mon Foundation (IT), Lottozero (IT) and The Textile Museum of Prato (IT). She is a member of Sea Slug Art Guide (SE) and co-founder of the international curatorial collective ALTER (DK/IT/SE).
