Elina Suoyrjö
Elina Suoyrjö is a curator, writer, and researcher. Her intersectional feminist practice builds upon close dialogue and collaboration with artists. Most often she works site- and/or situation-specifically, and quite often with commissioning new work. She’s interested above all in what art does and how art feels. Her recent projects have weaved around topics such as ecofeminisms, hydrofeminisms, the occult in contemporary art, as well as the creation of transformative energies through curatorial work.
Elina has been active as an in/codependent curator since 2011. She has also worked at various art organisations and institutions, most recently as the Head of Programs at the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York and as the Executive Director of Titanik art space in Turku, Finland. She currently works as a curator at Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki.
She holds an MA in both history of art and gender studies from the University of Helsinki, an MA in curating art from Stockholm University, and a PhD in the field of feminist curating from Middlesex University, London. She has curated exhibitions and events with collaborators and venues such as Basel Social Club, Flux Factory, Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, New Art Dealers Alliance, Tenthaus Oslo, HAM Helsinki Art Museum, ISCP New York, La Galerie Cac, and ICA London.
