Sharing Stories/Preserving Knowledge. Sonified Textiles Workshop: Embedding Stories onto Smart Textiles

‘Sharing Stories/Preserving Knowledge’ is an ongoing project in a workshop style. It aims to invite the participants to think about the practice of embroidery in relation to personal events, how craft can be manipulated electronically, and how personal stories can be inserted into textiles in different fashions. Addressing ideas of movement, displacement and, ultimately, how it is possible to find or make a home in a different cultural context other than our own, the workshop allowed the participants to share their stories in a more original and innovative manner.

Raquel Villar-Pérez is a researcher, art curator, and writer from Spain based in London. She is interested in decolonial discourses in contemporary art and craft practices from the Global South, mainly from Africa and Latin America, and how they resist trends set by Globalisation. She is especially sensitive to women’s experiences and notions of transnational feminisms, and how contemporary art echoes them. She tends to work collaboratively to open up participative processes to generate novel inclusive and progressive art narratives.
